No matter the time of day…or night, if you came to the Briggs house and you were greeted by my Mom, very shortly you were asked, “Can I get you something to eat?” Today, if…you hear that question at all, more often than not, it’s probably said in hopes you’ll respond with southern humility, and politely decline…or with an unstated understanding of what that really means when you say yes…a reply that usually involves an offer of something in a box or bag from the pantry or…”let’s go out!!”
But not my Mom! She was Mom to me…Louise to friends, Mrs. Briggs to sales people calling on the phone…she enjoyed that…and for a very special and select few…Mam-maw. But to everyone who entered her home, especially those who knew about…and maybe counted on her guaranteed offer to feed them, she was the consummate host and server of people. And whether from her freezer, the refrigerator, her counter top or best of all, her imagination and love for not only cooking…but cooking for those she loved, you always got her on a plate! And from that, I learned that one of the best kept secrets of Mom’s cooking was…she never cooked alone. This is my motivation for my new food blog, The Briggs House…so those of you who love to cook great food, will never cook alone!! Please subscribe below, and join me on a journey of discovery and love for food and what it brings to life, to love and to those who will love your food too!!
